Update from the Inquiry

The Inquiry is aiming to resume Module 2 hearings on 8 February 2021.

The hearings will use a Zoom based video platform and allow all those who would have been required to be onsite for the limited attendance hearings to participate from remote locations. The updated provisional Phase 2 timetable can be found here.

Hearings update

The Inquiry was made aware today that an individual who was onsite last week has tested positive for Covid-19. The individual was last at the venue on 4 December and, accordingly, a number of other individuals have been told to isolate.

The Inquiry has strong precautions in place to maintain two-metre distancing between attendees, so this will hopefully be an isolated case. However due to the reduction in staff numbers, and in the interest of safety, the Chairman has made the difficult decision to suspend hearings.

Tier 2 Covid-19 Restrictions

From Saturday 18th October, London will be subject to Tier 2 Covid-19 restrictions. The Inquiry premises are a workplace and we have stringent measures in place to protect all attendees. The Government Property Agency has therefore confirmed the Inquiry premises can remain operational with the measures currently in place, including the limit on numbers.  Inquiry hearings will continue as now, on a limited attendance basis, and the Inquiry team will continue to monitor Government guidance closely.

Update on Inquiry Panel

The Cabinet Office has announced that the Prime Minister has appointed Ali Akbor OBE as a Panel Member of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry. Mr Akbor is currently the Chief Executive of Leeds-based housing association Unity Homes and Enterprise, and will join the Panel at the beginning of November.

You can find the exchange of letters between the Prime Minister and the Chairman of the Inquiry, which contain further information about the appointment, here.
