Closure of the Inquiry
The Inquiry’s final report was published on 4th September 2024. The Panel have completed their investigations and the Inquiry is neither receiving nor disclosing any further evidence. The Inquiry will close formally once the Chairman writes to the Prime Minister to confirm he has completed the Inquiry’s Terms of Reference. He expects to do so once all administrative arrangements have been completed, including the payment of the publicly-funded core participants’ legal representatives and the archiving of the record.
Archiving of the Inquiry Record
Rule 18 (1)(b) of the Inquiry Rules 2006 requires that ‘at the end of the inquiry, the chairman must transfer custody of the inquiry record to a department of Her Majesty’s Government in the United Kingdom or to the appropriate public record office, as the Minister directs.’ In this case the relevant department is the Cabinet Office and the appropriate public record office is The National Archives.
As directed by the sponsoring minister, all evidence used by the Inquiry and disclosed to core participants will be transferred to The National Archives, together with the contents of the Inquiry’s website, the Inquiry’s YouTube channel and other significant documents that explain the conduct of the Inquiry. This material will be available for the public to view on the National Archives’ Discovery catalogue once it has been published by The National Archives.
In light of the continuing police investigation and in keeping with the Inquiry Rules, the remainder of the undisclosed and unused material that was submitted to the Inquiry, together with the Inquiry’s administrative record, will be transferred to the Cabinet Office as its sponsoring department to be managed in accordance with the rules that apply to all public records.
Community drop-in session
The next drop-in session will be at Bay 20, 71 St Marks Road, London, W10 6JG, on Monday 25th November from 16.30 to 18.30. This is the last scheduled drop-in session. Any further sessions will be subject to demand.
